€9.5 Million Project Underway To Redevelop Inspire’s Facilities

Minister for European Funds, Social Dialogue and Consumer Protection Keith Azzopardi Tanti, together with Minister for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector Julia Farrugia, visited the Inspire complex in Marsaskala to review works on a major redevelopment project co-financed through more than €5 million in European Union funds.

The project, which represents a total investment of €9.6 million, aims to modernise Inspire's facilities and expand the services offered to persons with disabilities. The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2028.

During the visit, the ministers were shown plans for the upgraded complex, which will include new therapy rooms, sensory spaces, creative arts and music studios, a hydrotherapy area, outdoor play spaces and vocational training facilities.

Keith Azzopardi Tanti said European funds deliver real value when they are invested in projects that directly improve people's lives, particularly those of vulnerable members of society. He described the Inspire project as an example of how European funding can enhance the quality of life of persons with disabilities and their families.

Julia Farrugia said the investment will strengthen both the facilities and the services available, while demonstrating the benefits of cooperation between the Government, the voluntary sector and the European Union. She added that the project will help build a society where everyone has the support and opportunities needed to participate fully in community life.

The upgraded complex will support day care and respite programmes, early intervention services for autism and other disabilities, outreach programmes in schools and life skills training for adolescents and adults. A new Family Support Centre for parents, carers and professionals will also be established.

The project also includes spaces that replicate workplace environments, such as a kitchen, cafeteria, post office and hotel, to help develop vocational skills and independence. A new Educational and Community Hub is expected to support around 440 persons with disabilities during its first year while increasing the number of families benefiting from Inspire's services from 286 to 918.
