€8 Million To Restore & Transform Attard Townhouse Into Boutique Hotel

Prime Minister Robert Abela has officially inaugurated Casa Bonavita, an 18th century Maltese townhouse in the heart of Attard that has been restored and transformed into a 17-room boutique hotel following an investment of more than €8 million by Maltese entrepreneurs.

The Prime Minister said the project represents more than a significant private investment, describing it as the successful transformation of a historic property while preserving its Maltese identity and character.

He said Casa Bonavita combines luxury, authenticity and heritage, offering visitors a distinctive experience rooted in Malta's traditions.

Abela said the investment is part of a wider trend of strong private investment in Malta's tourism sector, which he described as a clear sign of confidence from both Maltese and foreign investors in the country's economy.

Referring to recent tourism performance, the Prime Minister highlighted growth in tourist arrivals and expenditure, while noting that Eurostat figures show that only 22% of tourist overnight stays in Malta were recorded during July and August. The European Union average during the same period stood at 31%.

"This is an incredible achievement for the Maltese Islands because we have succeeded in developing a strong tourism industry that operates throughout the year," Abela said, adding that the Government's focus is now on attracting greater value from Malta's tourism offering.

He also referred to measures introduced this year, including encouraging improvements to existing accommodation, limiting the development of lower category accommodation and continuing to regulate the short-let market.

The Prime Minister thanked the investors behind Casa Bonavita, saying that their commitment, alongside that of other investors across the country, is contributing to a higher-quality tourism product.

Francis Spiteri Paris, representing the owners, said the project was designed to ensure that the hotel reflected Maltese identity.

He explained that the restoration involved Maltese workers and skilled craftsmen, including builders and carpenters, helping to preserve the authenticity of the property.

"We believe Casa Bonavita fills a gap in Malta's hospitality sector by offering a smaller, personalised experience for visitors seeking authentic Maltese character," Mr Spiteri Paris said.

Also present for the inauguration were General Manager Cyril Baligand and Executive Head Housekeeping Therese Agius.
