€75 Million Plant To Transform Organic Waste Into Renewable Energy Proposed By Labour

Announcing a number of environment related proposals, Prime Minister Robert Abela proposed starting work on a new plant which would aim to turn organic waste into renewable energy.
Abela said that this new plant would be built through an investment of €75 million, and will serve as one of Malta’s main energy sources.
In 2023, a facility began operating within the Ecohive complex that separates cardboard and plastic from other waste so that they can be recycled and reused. In the coming years, Abela said work will begin on a skip facility that processes around 50,000 tonnes of bulky waste that is brought into the complex through open-top skips.
