The Government has announced a €1.1 million investment in 18 projects aimed at strengthening community safety and sustainability across Malta and Għawdex. The funding, allocated through the Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA), is derived from traffic contraventions.
According to figures provided, 113 projects have been implemented since 2021, with a total investment of approximately €6 million under the same scheme.
The announcement was made during a ceremony addressed by Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli. They stated that the scheme is designed to channel enforcement revenues back into local communities.
Approved projects include the installation of CCTV systems, restoration and maintenance of historic sites, upgrades to pavements and sports facilities, the purchase of electric vehicles for Local Councils, and environmental and inclusive initiatives.
The Government said the programme aims to improve local services, safety and overall quality of life within communities.
