Ongoing investment by the Public Works Department continues to strengthen the centres of towns and villages, with recent embellishment works completed in Pjazza Narbona, Qormi. The project represents an investment of approximately €500,000 and is aimed at improving accessibility, safety and the overall appearance of the area.

The works included the preparation of bases for 22 lighting poles and the excavation of nearly 500 metres of trenches to accommodate cabling for new lighting in the square, around the church and on the parvis.

The project also involved the construction of almost 500 square metres of new pavements, together with the laying of around 2,000 square metres of new asphalt surfacing.

In addition, the Public Works Department provided professional architectural and engineering services to assist the Parish with the restoration of the dome of the Church of St Sebastian, as well as the installation of new artistic lighting. Further technical works included the removal of exposed electrical cables and the creation of new underground routes, improving both safety and visual quality.

During a site visit, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia said the investment was intended to enhance residents’ quality of life while revitalising important community spaces. Qormi Mayor Josef Masini Vento highlighted the effective collaboration between the Department and the Local Council.

Archpriest Reverend Ewkarist Zammit added that further regeneration works are planned for the church parvis and the Parish Hall, building on this ongoing partnership.
