The Association for Catering Establishments (ACE) has welcomed the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ian Borg of a €30 million fund dedicated specifically to restaurants across Malta and Gozo.

Under the scheme, eligible establishments may receive grants of up to €300,000, representing a significant investment aimed at strengthening one of the country’s key economic and tourism sectors.

ACE described the announcement as a positive result of ongoing dialogue and advocacy on behalf of its members. The organisation said the funding will help restaurants continue investing in their premises, products, staff and service standards.

It also noted that the support will assist catering establishments in maintaining and improving quality across the sector, in line with national tourism objectives.

While the restaurant industry has continued to grow in recent years, operators have also faced a number of challenges. ACE has consistently called for targeted assistance to help businesses invest in quality, innovation and competitiveness. It said the new financial measure is both timely and welcome.

The association stressed that continued investment in gastronomy is essential, given its increasingly important role in Malta and Gozo’s tourism offering. ACE said it looks forward to further cooperation with the authorities to ensure the sector continues to develop and contribute to the wider economy, and it awaits additional details on the scheme.
