€26.6 Million In Social Benefits To Be Paid To Over 61,000 Families This Weekend

Families with children and beneficiaries of supplementary assistance will receive payments this weekend totalling around €26.6 million, covering the second quarter of this year.
So far, through the first two payments of the year, these families have received a total of €53 million. It is estimated that by the end of the year the total amount distributed will reach nearly €110 million.
The largest share of the second quarter payments amounts to €19.5 million in Children’s Allowance and the additional supplement. These payments will reach almost 42,000 families with nearly 62,600 children.
This is the second payment to be issued under new parameters introduced in the most recent national budget to determine the allowance rates for families whose disposable income is relatively low or moderate.
Following these changes, the amount paid for each child under the age of 16 has increased. The highest annual Children’s Allowance rate has risen by €167 to €1,420. Families are also receiving an additional supplement which this year increased by €250 to €910, bringing the total support to €2,330 per child.
A family with two children that qualifies for the highest rate will receive €4,660 this year. The amounts vary according to household income, with the minimum payment standing at nearly €1,100 per child annually.
More than 2,100 families with around 2,700 children who have a physical or intellectual disability are also receiving the Disabled Child Allowance for the second quarter. These payments exceed €1.3 million.
Financial support is also being provided to families who foster children up to the age of 21. Foster carers are receiving €6,760 per child this year, an increase of €520 compared with last year. As a result, they will receive a three month payment of €1,690 this week.
Meanwhile, almost 19,600 families, couples and single individuals will share nearly €5.4 million in improved Supplementary Allowance payments aimed at helping them manage living costs.
Michael Falzon, Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, said the government remains committed to providing stability and support to families despite global uncertainty. He added that these measures reflect the country’s ongoing social commitment to prioritising people and supporting those most in need.
