€250 Million STMicroelectronics Investment Advances To Next Phase In Malta

Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri, marked on behalf of the Government the transfer of a new facility from INDIS to STMicroelectronics in Ħal Kirkop.
The project represents a major strategic investment that will strengthen Malta’s position in global high value industries.
With a total investment of €250 million, the STMicroelectronics project has entered its next phase. It is the largest foreign direct investment in Malta and is being implemented in collaboration between Maltese authorities and STMicroelectronics.
The project is expected to reinforce Malta’s role as a competitive hub for advanced manufacturing.
The facility will use advanced technology, automation and robotics to support sophisticated production. It will manufacture microchips and components for international markets, with applications in satellites, aircraft and other electronic systems, increasing the value of local production.
Robert Abela said technological progress will provide workers with better tools to improve productivity while requiring new skills and training. He said this will lead to stronger careers and better wages for Maltese and Gozitan families.
He added that this reflects the Government’s focus not only on job creation but also on job quality. He noted that Malta’s progress over the past 13 years is based on economic transformation, stability, investment in people and sustained foreign investment.
Minister Silvio Schembri said the project shows strong international confidence in Malta. He added that Malta is strengthening its position in semiconductors, which are essential for medical devices, electric vehicles and advanced energy systems.
The KK3 project represents an 18 month development including advanced production areas, cleanrooms and modern systems.
