€2 Million Invested In 160 School Maintenance Projects Over Summer

Around €2 million was invested in 160 maintenance projects across Malta’s schools over the summer, covering classrooms, roofs, toilet blocks, play areas and furniture.

The works were carried out through Edu Infrastructure ahead of the start of the new scholastic year, as thousands of students prepare to return to classrooms.

One of the biggest upgrades is at Valletta Primary School, which is reopening following a €2.2 million renovation.

Works there included air conditioning and photovoltaic panels, accessible bathrooms on every floor, upgraded safety systems, new outdoor sports facilities with artificial grass and sensory-friendly colours and finishes for students with autism.

And the investment goes far beyond summer maintenance.

The Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools currently has more than €110 million worth of new and upgraded school projects under way across Malta and Gozo.

These include a new hydrotherapy complex for children with disabilities at San Miguel in Pembroke, a new EU co-funded primary school in Naxxar, a new primary school in Mellieħa and major refurbishment works at San Ġorġ Primary in Ħal Qormi.

In Gozo, Kerċem Primary is opening its doors this scholastic year, while works on Żebbuġ Primary are expected to start soon.

Further projects are also under way in Birkirkara, Blata l-Bajda and Sliema, among other locations.
