€15 Million Transformation Underway at Qormi Primary School

A €15 million project is transforming San Ġorġ Primary School in Qormi into a modern educational facility while preserving the architectural character of the existing building.
The project, being carried out by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS), is divided into two phases so that the school can remain operational throughout the works. Extensive structural interventions are underway, including the replacement of old roofs, extensions and the development of new educational spaces and facilities.
Education and Sport Minister Byron Camilleri visited the school to follow the progress of the project, describing it as part of the government’s wider investment in modern, accessible and better-equipped schools.
Once completed, the school will have more than 30 classrooms, including kindergarten facilities, as well as dedicated spaces for art and music, multisensory classrooms, a psychosocial classroom and a personal and social development classroom. All classrooms will be equipped with air conditioning.
The project will also include upgrades to the school hall, courtyards and childcare centre, together with new electricity, water, drainage and internet services. Security cameras, alarm and fire protection systems will also be installed, alongside measures aimed at improving energy efficiency.
The first phase is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027, while the entire project is scheduled for completion during the 2027/2028 scholastic year.
The works are intended to give the long-standing Qormi school a new lease of life while maintaining its connection to the local community.
