€15 Million Investment For Extensive Ħal Qormi Primary School Refurbishment

A €15 million investment has been announced for the extension and extensive refurbishment of Ħal Qormi Primary School (St George) within St Ignatius College, as part of continued efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure.
The project aims to provide modern, accessible and comfortable facilities for both students and educators, ensuring that the learning environment reflects present day standards.

Speaking during a site visit to works being carried out by the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said the initiative forms part of a wider commitment to improving the spaces where students and teachers spend a substantial part of their day.
The refurbishment includes significant structural upgrades to the existing two storey building, which dates back to the early twentieth century and is around 100 years old.
A recessed floor will be constructed, and the school will be fully modernised. Once completed, the facility will offer more than 30 classrooms, including kindergarten rooms and specialised spaces for subjects such as art and music.
Dedicated areas will also be introduced, including a nurture room, multi sensory rooms, a psycho social room and a classroom for Personal, Social and Career Development.

The project will make the building fully accessible and will also provide a hall with a separate entrance for community use outside school hours, along with a childcare centre. Outdoor areas will be redeveloped with artificial turf and shaded spaces.
Additional works include the replacement of roofing and the installation of updated services, including electricity, water, drainage, CCTV, internet, alarm systems and fire safety measures. The upgraded school is expected to accommodate around 400 students.
