€12.8 MILLION INVESTMENT ANNOUNCED FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS ACROSS MALTA

The Government has announced a €12.8 million investment in community projects across Malta through a new two-year agreement between the Department of Public Works and all Local Councils.

The investment, increased from €10 million under the previous agreement, will support projects addressing local needs, including maintenance works, accessibility improvements, public spaces and other infrastructure projects aimed at improving residents' quality of life.

The agreement was announced during a press conference addressed by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli, Permanent Secretary Emil Vassallo and Director General of the Community Projects Division, Architect Nadia Gatt.

Minister Zerafa Civelli said the increased investment demonstrates the Government's commitment to working closely with Local Councils and ensuring resources reach communities where they are most needed.

Over the past two years, the previous agreement resulted in 123 infrastructure projects across different localities.

Under the new agreement, Local Councils will have greater scope to select projects based on the needs of their communities. Projects will have clear budgets, timelines and responsibilities, creating a more structured and efficient process.

The funding will also support continued improvements to pavements nationwide, with particular emphasis on accessibility and mobility.

The Government said the initiative aims to create safer, more accessible and higher-quality public spaces for residents across Malta.
