€100K Fund Launched To Support Sustainable Projects By Voluntary Organisations

The Government has launched a new call for applications under the Sustainable Development Fund Support Scheme for Voluntary Organisations, aimed at supporting projects that promote sustainability across Malta.
The initiative was announced during a press conference by the Minister for the Environment and Energy Miriam Dalli and the Minister for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector Julia Farrugia, together with representatives from the Directorate for Sustainable Development and the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector.
Backed by an allocation of €100,000, the scheme is intended to encourage initiatives that contribute to the three pillars of sustainable development, namely social, environmental and economic. It also seeks to strengthen the role of voluntary organisations in driving sustainable practices within local communities.
Minister Dalli said the scheme places sustainability at the centre of community life and supports projects that improve quality of life while reinforcing civil society. She added that investing in voluntary organisations also supports broader democratic participation and resilience.
Minister Farrugia said the fund reflects the Government’s commitment to empowering organisations that work closely with communities. She noted that such initiatives help deliver practical outcomes while encouraging active participation and inclusive development.
Eligible organisations may receive up to 80 per cent of eligible project costs, capped at €10,000 per project, including VAT. Projects must have clear objectives, measurable results and be completed within 24 months of signing the grant agreement.
The call is open until Friday, 24 April 2026 at noon, with applications to be submitted through the VO Funding Portal. All projects must align with one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
