Work has begun on a new public garden on Triq il-Għasel, covering around 2,000 square metres in a residential area. The project was announced during a site visit by the Minister for the Environment, Miriam Dalli, together with the Mellieħa Local Council.

Excavation is currently underway for a three-level reservoir with a capacity of approximately 380 cubic metres, which will be used to irrigate the garden. The project, valued at around €1.5 million, will include pathways, educational workshops, and public facilities, alongside the planting of 64 trees and 150 shrubs.

“Project after project, we are continuing to improve our environment and the quality of life of people in their localities. This project will benefit around 3,000 residents,” said Minister Dalli.

Project manager Chiara Darmanin noted that the Mellieħa garden is part of the 19 projects currently underway by the Project Green Agency. Excavation works are taking place in the rock to prepare the garden base, which will house the reservoir for irrigation.

Once completed, the project will provide residents with new open spaces, recreational areas, and educational opportunities, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing local communities.
