€1.4 Million Worth Of Cocaine Found On Vessel Docked In Malta

The Malta Police Force, along with Customs Officials, are currently investigating the discovery of 14 kilos of cocaine which were found hidden on a mercantile vessel, amounting to around €1.4 million.
Late on Friday evening, the vessel MSC Firenze entered the Free Port, with the Maltese authorities being notified by the captain that during a routine clean up on the 21st of October, crew members found a black bag covered in a net.
The bag was hidden in a compartment near the engine. Due to suspicions of illegal substances, the crew sealed the bag and handed it over to police upon arrival in Malta.
In the bag, 14 packets of cocaine were found, each weighing around 1 kilo.
Investigations found that the vessel, registered in Liberia, left Panama on the 17th of October and was on its route to Port Gioia Tauro in Italy.
An inquiry has been opened and investigations are ongoing.
