EU Holiday Rules Get Updates To Protect Travellers

The European Parliament and EU countries have agreed on new rules to protect people when they book package holidays. These changes were made after problems during Covid and the collapse of big companies like Thomas Cook.
The new rules say that travel vouchers must be optional. This means travellers do not have to take a voucher if they do not want to. The vouchers must last 12 months and, if not used, the traveller must get their money back.
If a travel company goes bankrupt, people must be refunded within six months. Travellers will also get clearer information about their rights and will be able to cancel a trip in very unusual or dangerous situations.
For the first time, travel companies must follow a complaint system. They must confirm they received a complaint within seven days and give a proper answer within 60 days.
Lead negotiator Alex Agius Saliba said the aim was to protect travellers while also supporting the travel industry, which gives many people jobs.
These rules are meant to make holidays safer, fairer, and less stressful for everyone.
