The Esplora Interactive Science Centre has officially launched its Educational Programme for the 2025–2026 scholastic year, reaffirming its mission to inspire curiosity and promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education across Malta and Gozo.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima stated,“With this programme, we are reinforcing our work in a key sector of the education system, encouraging more students to choose STEAM subjects. Through this hands-on scientific programme, which brings science closer to learners of all ages, we continue to renew our commitment towards an education that merges knowledge with creativity. Education should be dynamic and relevant, and that is what we are seeing today.”

The event, attended by educators and key stakeholders in education and research, included previews of upcoming activities from the new programme as well as live demonstrations at the Science Theatre. Senior government officials praised Esplora’s contribution to Malta’s education and innovation sectors.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti added, “Investment in STEAM is an investment in our country’s future.”

Esplora’s Senior Director, Mary Ann Cauchi said, “By embracing the ‘A’ in STEAM, we spark creativity alongside scientific inquiry. The arts play a crucial role as they help students make connections, express ideas, and think critically. This year’s programme reflects our belief that innovation flourishes when science and creativity go hand in hand.”

Deputy Director for STEAM Engagement, Kiki Mizzi, presented the updated programme structure, stressing its alignment with the national curriculum and its accessibility to students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

“Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We have designed this programme to ensure that every student, regardless of age, ability, or learning style, has the opportunity to engage meaningfully with science. By closely aligning with the curriculum, we also support educators in delivering content that is both relevant and inspiring,” Mizzi said.
