European Parliament President Roberta Metsola shared a statement commemorating 82 years from the Warsaw Uprising.

The Uprising was a World War II operation by the Polish underground resistance to liberate Warsaw from German occupation in 1944.

The resistance was fought for over 60 days with little outside support, and was the largest military effort taken by any European resistance movement during World War II.

‘Their courage reminds us that the Europe we enjoy today was built on the sacrifice of ordinary people who chose extraordinary bravery’, said Metsola.

‘Their story is Europe’s story. And their legacy continues to inspire us to defend the values of freedom, democracy, and peace for generations to come.’
