Entangled Turtle Mira Rescued Off Miġra l-Ferħa
Environment

Yesterday afternoon, three persons noticed a turtle floating whilst entangled at Miġra l-Ferħa, prompting them to call Wildlife Rescue Team Malta.

The three individuals, Katya Agius, Daniela Agius and Sharon Bonnici, kept an eye on the turtle till the rescue relay took its course.

Given that the turtle was quite a distance off from the shore, the wildlife team asked for assistance from Civil Protection Malta and Armed Forces of Malta, with the former dispatching a dinghy.

The turtle was brought to shore and was immediately taken to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Thanks to CPD officials, the turtle, who had metal and rope entangled around her front flipper, was rescued.

Mira, as she was later named, also had scraped and damaged her face and carapace, with a flipper getting severely swollen.

Mira will be undergoing further care at the centre, but the call went a long way in helping her chances.

If you spot any of the wild animals that are injured or in danger, please call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.
