Enhancement works at the entrance and façade of Għajnsielem Primary School have transformed the area into a greener, more accessible public space, in a project inaugurated by Minister for the Environment and Energy Miriam Dalli and Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri.

The inauguration was attended by Mayor Kevin Cauchi, members of the Għajnsielem Local Council, Ambjent Malta officials, school representatives, and students.

Pupils marked the occasion with activities including readings about Gozitan poets Mary Meilak and Ġorġ Pisani, while poetry was also recited on benches designed in the form of books.

The project, carried out by the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, Ambjent Malta, and the local council, replaced a wall and concrete yard with a landscaped public area featuring trees, shrubs, grass pavers, and vertical greenery.

A canopy roof and green screens were also installed to reduce urban impact and improve privacy.

Minister Dalli said the initiative forms part of wider efforts to reduce concrete and expand accessible green spaces, while Minister Camilleri highlighted its value for children and the wider community. Mayor Cauchi described the new garden as a space for residents and parents to enjoy.
