In a landmark development for the engineering profession in Malta, 61 graduates have been awarded their engineering warrant after successfully completing their studies.

For the first time, the list of recipients included graduates from MCAST who completed their courses and passed the scrutiny of the Board of Engineers.

This milestone was achieved after overcoming several obstacles, including legal challenges, which the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works and the Board of Engineers successfully addressed.

The Board of Engineers operates on the principles of equality and justice, awarding warrants impartially and on merit, provided the course studied meets the established criteria and standards.

This achievement reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening the engineering profession while ensuring fair and equal opportunities based on quality, competence and merit.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett highlighted the importance of engineers’ work, describing it as invaluable to society.

“This is an important step, firstly because the Government honoured its promise to MCAST students eligible for the warrant, and also because these engineers will contribute to making the Malta 2050 Vision a reality, a vision built on key economic sectors with a strong focus on modern and innovative technology,” Minister Bonett said.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia added that engineers play a crucial role in strengthening Maltese society.

“These 61 engineers are joining their colleagues to continue building the Malta of the future. This is the progress we want to see in our country so that tomorrow will be better than today,” he said.

Chairperson of the Board of Engineers Dr Noel Camilleri noted that the Board has always acted within the law and will continue to do so to maintain the high standards of the engineering profession.
