Enemalta Workers Deserve Special Compensation, Says PN

The Nationalist Party has proposed special financial compensation for Enemalta employees who have been directly involved in emergency operations during the recent electricity disruptions, while also renewing its call for an automatic compensation system for affected consumers.

The PN said Enemalta workers have been working under difficult conditions and in extreme temperatures to restore electricity supplies across Malta and Gozo.

The party argued that these employees were not responsible for the planning failures or lack of investment that led to the crisis and should receive financial recognition for their dedication and service.

The Opposition said responsibility for the electricity crisis remains with the Government and those who have managed the energy sector in recent years. It said the proposal to compensate workers does not reduce the need for political accountability over the power cuts.

The Nationalist Party also reiterated its proposal for an automatic compensation mechanism for families and businesses affected by prolonged or repeated electricity outages.

The PN said this should cover losses including spoiled food and medicines, as well as damaged appliances and equipment.

According to the Opposition, compensation should be triggered automatically whenever established criteria are met following a disruption in service, rather than being granted only on an exceptional basis during a national crisis.

The Nationalist Party said its priority remains the swift restoration of electricity supplies to all affected residents.

The PN argued that, while compensation is important, families and businesses primarily want a reliable electricity service that allows them to continue their daily lives without disruption, particularly during the peak of summer.
