Emergency Construction Works On Naxxar Site Officially Started

The Building and Construction Authority has provided an update on the emergency works currently underway at a construction site in Naxxar following a meeting held with affected residents and families on Monday, 18 May.
Representatives from Infrastructure Malta also attended the meeting and discussed the road works taking place adjacent to the site.
Residents were informed that emergency remedial works would begin on Tuesday, 19 May, between 5:00am and 8:00pm, following recommendations made by Professor Architect Alex Torpiano.
The project developer appointed Professor Torpiano to prepare a method statement outlining the interventions required to eliminate any danger posed by the site to workers and third parties.
The Authority also imposed a number of conditions on both the developer and contractor which must be observed throughout the works. These include the obligation to keep the Authority informed of all works being carried out, supported by visual evidence and documentation.
Additional conditions require the developer to provide an insurance policy and to cover all expenses related to the emergency interventions, including additional costs incurred by the Building and Construction Authority.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Section, together with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, continues to carry out regular inspections on site.
The Authority said it will remain in constant communication with residents to safeguard health, safety and the rights of third parties throughout the process.
