Emergency Clean-Up Planned for This Evening After Storm Harry
Local

Following the destruction left behind by Storm Harry, the coastline at Għar Aħmar in Marsaxlokk has been heavily affected, with debris and waste scattered across the area. In response, Żibel has announced an urgent clean-up effort taking place this evening, calling on the public to help restore the site.

Titled “After the Storm: Għar Aħmar Clean-Up”, the initiative aims to reverse the damage caused by the storm and protect one of the area’s natural coastal environments. Żibel is urging community members to step forward, stressing that every helping hand can make a real difference.

The clean-up will take place between 4pm and 6pm, with volunteers meeting at Għar Aħmar in Marsaxlokk. Participants are asked to bring water, while gloves and mesh bags will be provided on site.

Registration takes just two minutes and can be completed online. Organisers say the fast response is crucial to prevent further environmental damage and to return the area to a cleaner, safer state.

Founded in 2017, Żibel is a registered voluntary organisation and environmental NGO dedicated to reducing waste across the Maltese Islands and restoring natural environments. Over the years, the organisation has grown significantly thanks to the continued support of volunteers committed to protecting Malta’s surroundings.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and be part of the recovery effort following one of the most damaging storms to hit the islands in recent years.
