Eman Cross has been elected leader of the far right group Imperium Europa, despite having previously been barred from attending the party’s activities.

The announcement was made late on Sunday through the party’s TikTok account. Cross replaces Terrence Portelli, who stepped down from the role on Saturday, citing personal reasons and a lack of time to continue leading the organisation.

Cross has previously faced legal issues. In 2024 he pleaded guilty to breaching bail conditions after police found him in a bar in Ħamrun when he was supposed to be observing a court imposed curfew between 7pm and 7am.

His legal history also includes earlier court proceedings in 2022 in which he was accused of threatening his mother and her partner.

Although he denied those charges, he admitted during the same hearing to breaching the terms of a probation order and to unlawfully possessing a weapon. At the time, the court placed him under a treatment order aimed at addressing alcohol related problems.

Cross has long been connected to Imperium Europa and previously described himself as the founder and leader of Malta Right Wing Youths, which he said served as the party’s youth wing.

However, in 2021 he was formally barred from attending events organised by the group after party officials raised concerns about his behaviour.
