Elia Muscat Identified As Victim Of Fatal Wall Collapse In Qormi

Elia Muscat has been identified as the 76-year-old man who lost his life following a wall collapse in Qormi on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 5.30pm in Triq Farsina, where Muscat was carrying out construction work inside a garage together with his 41-year-old son. During the works, part of the wall collapsed, trapping both men beneath the debris.

Muscat was pronounced dead at the scene, while his son was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

Police officers, members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were immediately dispatched to the site to provide assistance.

In a statement, the Building and Construction Authority and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority confirmed that no construction works had been approved or granted clearance by either authority.

Both bodies said they will be assisting the magisterial inquiry into the tragic incident.
