The Labour Party has approved its first group of candidates set to contest the next general election, marking an early step in the party’s electoral preparations.

The decision was taken by the party’s national executive following a screening process carried out by the Candidate Commission, led by Charles Mangion, which reviewed applications over the past weeks.

A total of 17 candidates were approved in this first round, including 5 new faces. The new candidates are Vania Agius Tabone (Districts 8 and 9), Martina Buhagiar (Districts 2 and 3), David Caruana (Districts 9 and 10), Lisa Cassar Shaw (Districts 9 and 10), and Mariah Meli (Districts 9 and 10).

The remaining candidates in this initial group include established figures such as Carmelo Abela, Anthony Agius Decelis, Jonathan Attard, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, Glenn Bedingfield, Chris Bonett, Owen Bonnici, Lorna Borg Vassallo, Andy Ellul, Michael Falzon, James Grech, and Damian Spiteri, each assigned to specific electoral districts.

The party confirmed that this is only the first group of candidates, with the selection process set to continue in the coming weeks.
