Eight Awards To Recognise Malta’s Sustainability Champions

From pioneering research and community driven initiatives to inspiring young leaders and responsible businesses, the Malta Sustainable Development Action Awards 2026 celebrate the people and organisations shaping a more sustainable future for the Maltese Islands.
Established by the Ministry for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, the awards recognise outstanding contributions that advance economic, social and environmental sustainability while encouraging others to follow their example.
The awards feature eight categories, each highlighting a different aspect of sustainable development.
The Research and Innovation Award recognises academics whose research or technologies create lasting positive impact.
The Community Impact Award celebrates voluntary organisations, local councils and regional councils that have transformed communities through inclusive and meaningful initiatives.
The Youth Leadership Award honours young people aged 13 to 30 who are inspiring positive change through sustainability.
The ESG Positive Impact Award recognises private companies embedding environmental, social and governance principles into their business practices.
The Environment Award celebrates individuals and voluntary organisations protecting natural habitats, promoting resource efficiency and encouraging environmental stewardship.
The Sustainable School Award highlights schools that have integrated sustainability into education, daily operations and student life.
The Sustainability in Journalism Award rewards journalists and media contributors whose reporting raises awareness of sustainable development and inspires action.
Completing the programme, the Public Service Sustainability Award recognises government entities and public sector bodies driving sustainable practices through policy, innovation and collaboration.
Several category winners will receive €2,000 in funding to further strengthen their initiatives, together with a trophy recognising their achievement, while second and third place recipients will receive commemorative tokens.
Together, these awards showcase the diverse efforts helping build a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Malta.
