Educational Videos On Domestic Violence For PSCD Students

The Parliamentary Secretariat for Reforms and Equality, together with the Commission on Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence, has launched a new initiative using educational videos for students. These videos aim to provide a foundation for classroom discussions, helping students to recognise and avoid situations that could lead to various forms of gender based and domestic violence.
The initiative consists of six short films depicting different scenarios, some of which have been adapted from community theatre productions created as part of the campaign ‘Nieqfu Flimkien. Flimkien Infiqu’ during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
The videos will be used as an educational and visual tool during PSCD lessons in schools. They will also serve as a training resource for professionals who work with cases of gender based and domestic violence. The films highlight different forms of abuse and stress the importance of taking action to prevent any form of domestic violence.
The initiative was launched at St Francis School in Birkirkara and is part of the implementation of the National Strategy on Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence. The strategy emphasises learning and awareness of abuse forms recognised in law as domestic violence.
In cooperation with educational authorities, the initiative will be integrated into the PSCD curriculum to ensure that students feel comfortable discussing this sensitive topic from an early age.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms, Rebecca Buttigieg, stated, “This initiative forms a link in a chain of measures taken in recent months to increase the prevention of domestic violence.” She highlighted the importance of personal respect and raising awareness of different forms of abuse from a young age.
The Commissioner for Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence, Samantha Pace Gasan, added that art and collaboration are being used to prevent gender based and domestic violence. She explained that the videos will encourage students to express their thoughts and experiences while learning about consent and how to access professional support.
