More than 90% of registered early voters cast their ballot on Saturday, marking a notable increase from Malta’s 2022 general election early voting turnout.

According to figures released by the Electoral Commission of Malta, by the close of voting at 10:00pm, 14,818 votes had been cast out of 16,402 registered early voters, resulting in an approximate turnout of 90.34%.

This marks a significant rise compared to the 85.2% early voting turnout recorded during the 2022 general election, representing an increase of around 5 percentage points.

Early voting took place between 7:00am and 10:00pm on Saturday and included eligible voters unable to cast their ballot on polling day.

The Commission also reminded voters that Sunday is the final day to collect voting documents from police stations and local councils, with collection points remaining open until 12:00pm.

From Monday until Thursday at noon, uncollected voting documents may instead be picked up directly from the Electoral Commission’s offices in Naxxar.

Meanwhile, assistant electoral commissioners and police commissioners are scheduled to vote on Tuesday, while patients at Mater Dei Hospital, Karin Grech Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre and Gozo General Hospital will cast their votes on Thursday, ahead of Malta’s general election polling day on 30th May 2026.

Voting documents must be collected in person, with voters required to present a valid ID card upon collection.
