Schools officially reopened today, with Prime Minister Robert Abela announcing a €6 million investment across 160 maintenance and renovation projects to ensure classrooms are modern, safe, and welcoming for students.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with Malta Daily on Sunday morning, Abela also confirmed a strong collective agreement for educators and the arrival of 220 new teachers this scholastic year.

The Prime Minister said efforts are being made to strengthen the number of Learning Support Educators (LSEs), noting that 600 requests for additional support have been made by parents.

When pressed on how the government plans to keep educators satisfied with their working conditions, Abela insisted that under the Labour government, teachers enjoy the best conditions in history. On the issue of retaining new recruits, he added that educators he met this summer told him they “couldn’t believe their powerful paycheck” at the end of the month, following the most recent collective agreement.
