A major regeneration project aimed at transforming Marsa Square into a vibrant, accessible public space has been officially launched by Environment and Energy Minister Miriam Dalli.

With an investment of nearly €5 million, the project focuses on revitalising the heart of Marsa while improving residents’ quality of life.

“This initiative restores an important community space, reflecting its cultural significance and future potential. The aim is to create a safer, greener, and more beautiful environment,” Dr Dalli stated.

The project, led by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC), was developed following extensive consultation with local stakeholders. It will be rolled out in two phases, focusing on beautifying the square, easing traffic congestion, and expanding public spaces.

Spanning 9,500 square metres, the works include a new 650 square metre parvis in front of the Trinity Parish Church, restoration works, improved pedestrian paths, bike lanes, ramps, zebra crossings, and upgraded infrastructure systems.

Landscaping will add 330 square metres of greenery and 32 new trees, featuring Mediterranean species.

Enhanced lighting, including architectural features around the church, and full CCTV coverage will improve safety and ambiance. Construction using high-quality materials is set to begin in late August.

Local officials emphasised the project’s importance in breathing new life into the locality.
