€5 Million In Social Benefits For 25,000 Families Announced

Michael Falzon, The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights announced that two social benefits will be paid out this weekend, covering the period from July to September.
These are the In-Work Benefit and the Carer’s Grant.
Falzon, together with Permanent Secretary Mark Musu, confirmed the details during a press conference on Friday morning.
Minister Falzon highlighted that around 25,000 families will benefit from these payments, representing an investment of €5 million.
“This government has kept its word with families, workers and parents caring for children with severe disabilities,” said Falzon.
He noted that these measures, introduced by the current administration, will continue to be strengthened through yearly increases and expanded thresholds.
Permanent Secretary, Mark Musu, explained that the majority of beneficiaries, 24,427 in total, will receive the In-Work Benefit, representing nearly €4 million in support.
This benefit targets couples earning a joint net income of under €50,000, single-earner couples earning under €35,000, and single parents with an income below €35,000.
In addition, 539 families will receive the Carer’s Grant, amounting to just over €1 million.
Among these are 130 new beneficiaries, parents of children under 16 with severe disabilities, who will also receive retroactive payments from January 2025.
The Carer’s Grant, introduced in 2021, was initially available to parents of children with severe disabilities aged 16 and over, but has since been extended to include younger children.
