Driver Crashes Car Fleeing Police Arrest For Drug Trafficking

Last Friday, whilst police were conducting patrols in the Marsamxett, Valletta area, a suspicious Skoda Fabia was noted, which was likely being used to traffic drugs.

Whilst police followed the vehicle, it stopped for what police suspected to be trafficking of illegal substances. The man was identified as a 26 year old from Marsaskala.

Once the police approached for arrest, the man fled with the vehicle and drove dangerously away. He was caught shortly afterwards when he crashed the vehicle. Passenger in the car was a 19 year old woman resident of Mosta. Both were arrested.

A search in their vehicle resulted in various packets of drugs, suspected to be synthetic cannabis, around €1,000 in cash, and two mobile phones.

Both are being kept under arrest for further investigations, with the man expected to be taken to court today at around 9:30am.
