Dr Klown Launches Annual Memorial Event Honouring Children Lost To Illness

Local NGO Dr Klown has established an annual memorial event at Mater Dei Hospital to honour children who passed away following illness while recognising the strength and resilience of their families.
Held on the evening of 1st June at the SAMOC Internal Garden, the event brought together families, hospital staff, volunteer Klown Doctors and others involved in the children's care.
The date was chosen to coincide with International Children's Day and the Global Day of Parents, highlighting both the lives of children and the dedication of their caregivers.
The memorial began with a Holy Mass led by Dar tal-Providenza Director Fr Martin Micallef and SAMOC Chaplain Fr Gino Ciangura.
During the service, Fr Micallef reflected on the importance of solidarity, describing it as "the most beautiful human gesture" and a reminder that love endures beyond death.
A performance by the St Michael School Children's Choir added a touching atmosphere to the ceremony.
The event also featured the unveiling of “Ring The Bell,” a permanent sculpture created by MCAST Fine Arts student Amy Theuma in collaboration with fellow students and lecturers.
Inspired by the tradition of ringing a bell after completing treatment, the installation honours children who never had the opportunity to do so, inviting visitors to ring the bell in their memory.
Founded in 2010, Dr Klown provides healthcare clowning services across Malta and Gozo, supporting children and families through difficult medical journeys.
