DPM Ian Borg Calls Qatar Prime Minister After Iran Missiles Target Region

In a story shared to social media, the official account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar revealed that Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg called to discuss the ongoing escalating conflict in the Middle East.
HE Prime Minister and minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received calls on Sunday from Borg, along with the Foreign Affairs ministers of Cyprus, Croatia, India and Uzbekistan.

‘During the calls, they discussed the developments of the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability as well as ways to resolve all disputes through peaceful means’, the ministry wrote.
During the calls, the targeting of Qatari territory with Iranian ballistic missiles was discussed, and was deemed a blatant violation of its national sovereignty.
‘It is inconsistent with the principles of good neighbourliness’, the statement reads. ‘It cannot be accepted under any justification or pretext.’
The Qatar Prime Minister ‘noted that the Stat elf Qatar has always been keen to distance itself from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community. However, the renewed targeting of it territory does not reflect good faith and threatens the foundation of understanding upon which bilateral relations between the two countries are built.’
The necessity of immediate cessation of all escalatory actions, a return to the negotiating table, the prioritisation of reason and wisdom, and working to contain the cruises in a manner that preserves the security of the region were discussed.
