Din L-Art Ħelwa Proposes Dismantling And Moving Iconic Għajn Tuffieħa Tower

Times of Malta have revealed that NGO Din L-Art Ħelwa have advised the government to dismantle and relocate the iconic tower found in Għajn Tuffieħa to a more viable and safe location.
The NGO proposed this relocation due to fears that the tower might collapse due to the movement of the cliff which the tower is located on.
In recent days, police closed off access to the tower due to concerns, saying the tower structure and surrounding area were at risk of collapsing.
DLĦ Executive President Patrick Calleja stated that permission has recently been granted for private developers to dismantle a section of the 19th-century British barracks at Fort Chambray to enhance the view for newly proposed residential units, so surely the same could be done to preserve the tower.
Built by the Knights in 1637, the Għajn Tuffieħa Tower has long watched over one of Malta’s most stunning coastal landscapes. Din l-Art Ħelwa has raised concerns about the tower’s deteriorating state, warning that its collapse would be a devastating blow to Malta’s cultural heritage. The NGO is urging immediate action to preserve this historic landmark before it is lost forever.
