Details Announced For Second Edition Of Minn Pjazza Għal Pjazza

Over the coming months, the second edition of the initiative ‘minn Pjazza għal Pjazza’ will be held, bringing life to village squares across Malta and Gozo. Following last year’s success, the Local Government Division will once again fund a series of activities in collaboration with various Local Councils. This follows an expression of interest issued to Local Councils in Malta and Gozo, with 43 councils applying to take part.
At a press conference addressed by the Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, it was explained that the initiative aims to create artistic and cultural experiences at the heart of Maltese communities, namely their village squares. Squares in different localities will be transformed into hubs of creativity and community gathering through a programme of performances, local films, and interactive activities.

The cultural and community programme will be under the artistic direction of Daniel Cauchi, in collaboration with Local Councils. Each locality will have a unique programme inspired by its own identity and history.
Minister Owen Bonnici said that this is a welcome initiative that places village squares back at the centre of community life. He said that investing in quality cultural activities helps keep traditions alive while also creating modern spaces for expression and creativity. He thanked all participating localities and those working to strengthen cultural life in communities.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that these activities will complement other Local Council initiatives across Malta and Gozo, helping to further enrich the country’s cultural calendar with events throughout the year.
She said this is a way of celebrating Maltese cultural identity with community participation, ensuring that culture and the arts remain accessible to everyone. She added that, through collaboration with Local Councils, the Government is giving families the opportunity to enjoy leisure time across different local squares.

She concluded that this is an investment in communities, culture, the arts and craftsmanship, and above all an investment in residents across Malta and Gozo.
The localities hosting the events between May and November are Ħal Kirkop, Swieqi, Ħal Safi, Ħal Lija, Ħad-Dingli, Xagħra, Tas-Sliema, Ħal Għaxaq, Pembroke, Siġġiewi, Imqabba, Żurrieq, Paola, Valletta and Bormla.
