During an official visit to London, Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, held talks with the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Rt Hon Yvette Cooper.

The meeting focused on reinforcing Malta–UK relations and addressing key international developments of shared concern.

Borg expressed Malta’s deep appreciation for its long-standing friendship with the United Kingdom, highlighting the historic, cultural, and familial bonds that continue to shape strong cooperation between the two countries.

He emphasised that the UK remains a vital partner for Malta, particularly in sectors such as trade, health, and security.

Discussions also covered pressing global issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the situation in Libya.

Ian Borg reiterated Malta’s recognition of the State of Palestine and its firm support for a two-state solution, stressing the importance of peace, dialogue, and coexistence between Israel and Palestine.

He also reaffirmed Malta’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and accountability for breaches of international law.

Both ministers agreed on the need to maintain attention on developments in Libya and the wider Mediterranean, reaffirming their commitment to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
