Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg Represents Malta At Inauguration of Grand Egyptian Museum

Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, represented Malta at the official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo last Saturday.
The event brought together dignitaries and representatives from over 70 nations to celebrate the opening of one of the world’s largest and most significant cultural institutions, more than two decades in the making.
Borg described the museum as a monumental space that unites not only Egypt’s remarkable history but the broader story of human civilisation. He expressed Malta’s honour in being part of such an important occasion, highlighting the museum’s global cultural importance.
During his visit, Borg held bilateral talks with Dr Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates. Discussions focused on enhancing trade, improving connectivity, and strengthening cooperation between Malta and Egypt.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional issues, including the situation in Libya, maritime routes, and the strategic role of the Suez Canal in international commerce. Addressing the recent ceasefire in the Middle East, Borg stressed the need to maintain peace efforts and reaffirmed Malta’s support for a two-state solution.
He concluded by reaffirming Malta’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Egypt and expanding collaboration in the years ahead.
In a recent post on his FaceBook, Ian Borg summarised his time in Egypt with a video highlighting the core moments of his trip, accompanied by the caption “30 hours in Egypt in 30 seconds.”
