Demolition & Excavation Works To Stop In Summer Tourist Zones

From 15 June to 30 September 2026, demolition and excavation works will be prohibited in selected tourist zones as part of a coordinated initiative between the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).
The measure is intended to reduce disruption caused by construction activity in areas that are heavily used by tourists and where many residents and hotels are located.
The enforcement of Subsidiary Legislation 623.08, Third Schedule 1c, forms part of efforts to limit the impact of construction works on both the tourism sector and local communities.
Demolition and excavation phases are considered the most disruptive stages of construction due to noise, dust and general disturbance to nearby properties.
Any illegal works carried out during the restricted period in the designated localities and streets may be reported to the BCA on 138, available in both Malta and Gozo during and outside office hours.
The MTA is responsible for identifying the areas where such works are restricted and may update the list of roads as necessary.
You can view the full list of localities and roads where demolition or excavation works are prohibited during the summer months on the MTA website via this link.
