December 27th To Be Official Day Of Maltese National Anthem

In a video call with local influencer Valentina Rossi, Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli revealed that the 27th of December will become the official day of the Maltese National Anthem.
This followed a radio proposal made by Valentina Rossi to the Prime Minister, who subsequently contacted Bonnici and Zerafa Civelli to take action on it.
The two contacted Rossi to surprise her with the news, saying that she will now be part of Maltese history for having set this in motion.
Valentina explained how this came from a desire to remain connected to her Maltese heritage, recounting how she always heard the anthem at school but not so much afterwards.
The date was chosen because on 27 December 1922 the anthem, written by Dun Karm Psaila and composed by Robert Samut, was performed for the very first time.
This forms part of a bigger legislative process that has been launched in the House of Representatives to advance two proposed amendments to the Constitution of Malta that aim to establish a Maltese National Anthem Day and to strengthen the constitutional status of Valletta.
