The passing of Brother Edward Galea, the beloved educator of De La Salle, at the age of 102 has been announced, with tributes pouring in expressing their admiration and recounting their memories of his life.

Born in 1924, Bro. Edward served as a teacher, administrator, mentor and a friend to thousands of students, even as he entered his 100s.

‘Bro. Edward dedicated his life to education, faith and service, leaving an enduring mark on generations of students, educators and families’, De La Salle College said in a statement.

‘His quiet presence, commitment to the Lasallian mission and genuine care for others will be remembered with great affection and gratitude.’

Prime Minister Robert Abela also paid tribute, writing:

‘A man who dedicated his life to education, to faith, and above all to the generations of students who were fortunate enough to learn from him.'

‘With more than 80 years of service and vocation, Bro. Edward remains a wonderful example of dedication and love for others.’

The Nationalist Party also issued a statement, saying that, Brother Edward’s ‘contribution will be remembered with respect and gratitude by all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.’

On her part, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola wrote:

‘Brother Edward touched so many lives at De La Salle College and beyond. I will always remember his quiet way of making you feel completely heard and cared for. A steady, comforting presence across our islands, always ready with a soft-spoken word of encouragement or a warm smile right when you needed it most.’
