Daphne Caruana Galizia’s Son Reflects On Mum’s Last Birthday Celebrated As A Family

Taking to social media, Andrew Caruana Galizia, son of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, reflected on what would have been her 62nd birthday.
“Nine years ago today we celebrated my mother’s 53rd birthday. While we talked and laughed over dinner her killers were watching, waiting for a chance to place a powerful explosive under the driver’s seat of her car”, he wrote.
“Today would have been her 62nd birthday. I spent it in court, a few feet behind the man accused of ordering and financing her assassination, listening to his lawyer ask the jury whether me and my family are really interested in justice.”
“Since my mother’s murder we’ve marked the anniversary of her death but could never bear to mark her birthday; to mix memories of happiness with the pain of loss and the anger of injustice.”
“One day, the man who ended my mother’s life will slide into oblivion. And from that day on we will begin celebrating the extraordinary woman who was my mother on the day she was born.”
“There is no future for me and my family without justice.”
