Daniel Attard leads 42 MEPs In Call On FIFA And UEFA To Suspend Israeli Team

A cross-party initiative led by Maltese MEP Daniel Attard and backed by 42 Members of the European Parliament has urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin to suspend Israeli clubs and national teams until they comply with international law and governing statutes.

The MEPs argue that Israeli clubs operating from illegally occupied Palestinian territory are competing in breach of FIFA rules, while Palestinian football continues to face severe restrictions, raids, and the destruction of facilities.

They stressed the need for consistency, recalling that FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams within days of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

“Football governance must remain faithful to its own rules. Anything less undermines the credibility of FIFA and the principles of fair play,” the letter states.
