Crowd Celebrates 45 Years Of Bertu’s Take Away Ahead Of Retirement

A massive crowd gathered outside Bertu’s Valletta Take Away yesterday to celebrate 45 years of feeding the local community ahead of Bertu’s retirement.

It was announced some weeks ago that Bertu will be going into retirement after having run his shop for over four decades, continuously providing food and drink to locals and those visiting the capital city.

To honour the man’s hard work, a crowd of people gathered for one last time to grab a bite from the take-away.

But that wasn’t all. Led by Gabriel Tonna, known by his alias The Briefcase man, the crowd counted down to 45 and celebrated with Bertu himself one last time.

With a cake to mark the occasion, this closes a chapter of one of Valletta’s most iconic spots.
