During his address at the fifth edition of MedTech World Malta, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti highlighted Malta’s growing role as a global platform for healthcare innovation.

At the conference, Azzopardi Tanti announced that the Cancer Research and Innovation Hub Malta (CRIHM) has been officially recognised as a European Cancer Mission Hub. This designation reinforces Malta’s role in Europe’s collective cancer research and innovation efforts.

Alongside the event, CRIHM and MedTech World signed an MOU aimed at deepening cooperation. Azzopardi Tanti welcomed the partnership, noting that public-private collaboration is essential to advancing cancer research and strengthening Malta’s international reach.

MedTech CEO Dr Dylan Attard said the agreement positions Malta as a growing centre for scientific and technological excellence, combining MedTech World’s global platform with CRIHM’s research expertise to advance real-world cancer innovations.

CRIHM Chairman Prof Christian Scerri stated that the hub’s new European status will enhance Malta’s involvement in EU cancer initiatives. He also announced two new funding programmes: the CRIHM Young Investigator Award and the CRIHM Open Access Publication Reimbursement Scheme, both designed to support researchers and promote high-quality scientific output.
