CREDIT ON ELECTRICITY & WATER BILLS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE & DISABILITY VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS

The Ministry for Inclusion and Volunteering, together with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, has announced a new support measure for voluntary organisations working in the areas of disability and animal welfare. The measure was one of the commitments outlined in Budget 2026.
The announcement was made by Inclusion and Volunteering Minister Julia Farrugia alongside MCVS Chief Executive Mauro Pace Parascandolo during a visit to an animal sanctuary run by the Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals in Floriana.
In recognition of the vital contribution these organisations make to Maltese society and the financial pressures they face, a scheme is being introduced to provide credit on electricity and water bills for eligible organisations.
Associations involved in disability services and animal welfare may apply for a refund on utility bills paid, up to a maximum of €1,500 per year for small and medium sized organisations registered under Categories 1 and 2, and up to €2,500 per year for larger organisations.
A total of €100,000 has been allocated for the scheme, which will apply to electricity and water supplied to registered properties used by eligible organisations.
Minister Farrugia said the measure reflects the Government’s vision of a country that leaves no one behind and demonstrates concrete support for voluntary work.
The MCVS will publish full eligibility guidelines. Applicant organisations must be registered and compliant with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations.
