Court Ruling Allows MCAST Engineering Graduates To Apply For Warrant

Minister Chris Bonett announced that yesterday the court dismissed the injunction filed by the Malta Association of Professional Engineers (MAPE) against his Ministry and the Board of Engineers, which had been preventing MCAST engineering graduates from obtaining their warrant.
Two weeks ago, the Board, responsible for granting warrants, had voted in favour of allowing MCAST graduates to be considered.
However, two members of the Board who are also part of MAPE disagreed with the vote and filed a prohibitory injunction, which was provisionally accepted until a hearing scheduled for 10 November.
“The court’s decision now allows these students, who have worked hard, persevered, and graduated, to apply for their warrant and receive the same treatment as anyone else,” Minister Bonett said. “This enables them to begin careers that are urgently needed in our country.”
The Ministry reiterated that anyone meeting the criteria set out in Article 3 of Chapter 321 of Maltese law is eligible to apply for a warrant, regardless of whether they graduated from the University of Malta, MCAST, or another recognised institution.
The law allows the Board to grant a warrant to anyone with a degree or equivalent qualification, practical training, and supervised professional experience.
