Country-Wide Power Cuts Yesterday Caused By "Interruption At Gas Facilities," Says Enemalta

Yesterday, the majority of towns across Malta and Gozo reported several power cuts throughout the evening.

A number of localities experienced a loss of electricity with times ranging from just 10 minutes of no power, all the way to a couple of hours.

Enemalta explained that the issue was due to an interruption other one of the Liquefied Natural Gas plants, resulting in the loss of around 200W of generation.

“The sudden drop in generation required temporary supply interruptions in a number of areas to protect the stability of the wider electricity system while emergency generation was brought online,” they explained.

While Enemalta employees worked to restore power, emergency plants took over as the power was progressively restored.

Enemalta reported that the “electricity supply has been fully restored at around 20:00 to all affected households.”
